Welcome back friends, family, vendors and visitors to The Quill; the official Newsletter of the Artisan Craft Festival. Thank you all for the amazing success of the Spring Jamboree Show. We had record vendor participation and attendance. Easter Seals Nevada would also like to thank the dozens of people that donated and volunteered. In addition to cash donations and time volunteered they also signed up dozens of participants in their annual Walk-n-Roll. With the support of the Artisan Craft Festival community the Walk-n-Roll event was a record success. Great job everybody, great work!

The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service: Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves.
In their misery, some of these veterans banded together and formed organizations with what would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. After chapters were formed in Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania, the movement quickly gained momentum. By 1915, membership grew to 5,000; by 1936, membership was almost 200,000.
Since then, the VFW's voice had been instrumental in establishing the Veterans Administration, creating a GI Bill for the 20th century, the development of the national cemetery system and the fight for compensation for Vietnam vets exposed to Agent Orange and for veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome.
In 2008, VFW won a long-fought victory with the passing of a GI Bill for the 21st Century, giving expanded educational benefits to America's active-duty service members, and members of the Guard and Reserves, fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The VFW also has fought for improving VA medical centers services for women veterans.
Besides helping fund the creation of the Vietnam, Korean War, World War II and Women in Military Service memorials, the VFW in 2005 became the first veterans' organization to contribute to building the new Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial, which opened in November 2010.
Annually, the nearly 1.7 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliaries contribute more than 8.6 million hours of volunteerism in the community, including participation in Make A Difference Day and National Volunteer Week.
From providing millions in college scholarships and savings bonds to students every year, to encouraging elevation of the Department of Veterans Affairs to the president's cabinet, the VFW is there. VFW Nevada is one of the strongest posts in the country with a robust 6 districts, 38 posts, and 24 auxiliaries, with a total membership of over 10,000. Help them celebrate 80 years of service to our Veterans and our communities. Come to Artisan Craft Festival and support the VFW. Enjoy a piece of cake baked by Little Sweet Somethings or choose an amazing grab bag generously donated by beloved artists and crafters.

As a leader in the community, we at Artisan Craft Festival feel that it is very important to stay connected to our fans and other organizations throughout the valley and beyond. Recently we exhibited in a world class event, The Spring Jamboree Boulder City. As always the event in Boulder City was a smashing success due to the tireless work of the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce and their amazing volunteers. We would encourage all of our subscribers to always go out and see the over the top free events held throughout the year in one of Nevada's gems, Boulder City. Their events are always free and never disappoint.
We would like to thank US Bank for honoring us with their distinctive Business of the Month. Each month US Bank chooses 1 business to be showcased in their branches and in May they have chosen us. We are always humbled by accolades and are reminded of the importance of our community work. Thank you again US Bank for this honor.

John Rhude is one of our vendors who is also a veteran. John had dedicated a part of his life defending the Nation that he loves, The USA. John served in the US army from 1964-1966 during the war torn Viet Nam Era. The army sent John to Fort Dix NJ for basic training followed by advanced medical training at Fort Sam Houston in the great state of Texas. His deployment was in France serving the SP5 Medical Corp.
Though it was not the deployment of his dreams he did get to serve those in transit between the USA and Viet Nam. Serving in a support capacity John reminds us of all the necessary components that serve in keeping our armed services running smoothly and efficiently. Being honorably discharged in 1966 John safely returned to his family. We thank John for his service as we thank all those that serve our great Nation.
Come see John and Bonnie at Artisan Craft Festival on May 22.

In 2014, John and Bonnie retired. Getting bored after just a few long months and needing to occupy their time they became vendors. Deciding what to vend was the trick. Being fans of photography and loving the visual technology available they decided on 3D pictures. They love going to arts and crafts shows to meet great people, make new friends sell some pictures and yes even make a little money. If asked what they really loved the most about their experience; the answer is simple "The people". They have a massive collection with something for every taste and every budget.
Artisan Craft Festival is very proud to welcome a new partner to our team, Sam's Town. Our first show is coming soon with the full support of our sponsor, Sam's Town.
